TIRZ #1

In the early 1990’s, St. George Place was formed in the subdivision previously known as Lamar Terrace. St. George Place is Texas’ first Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ), and the first zoned area in all of Houston!

Of all the TIRZ’s that have followed since in Houston and other Texas cities, St. George Place is often regarded as one of the most successful. In the years since St George Place was formed, the neighborhood has been transformed from a once forgotten area of town into a premiere Uptown/Galleria area residential neighborhood full of new home construction, beautiful streets, and a fun and active neighborhood civic association (the SGPCA).

Board meetings for TIRZ 1 of St. George Place

Time: 11:30am every second Tuesday of each month

Location: Contact the Zone Administrator’s office via phone to determine the location of the next/current month’s meeting

Agenda: Contact the Zone Administrator’s Office (David Hawes) at 713-595-1209 at least one week ahead of time if you would like to be on the official agenda.

Verify before attending: Also, you should always call ahead of time (perhaps even the day of the meeting) to verify that the meeting is still being held that day (sometimes meetings are rescheduled at the last minute).

At least once each quarter, the TIRZ Board tries to schedule a special “resident meeting” in the evening so more residents can learn about recent community decisions, etc.
